Gabriel Stefan from Canada writes: The Wii did just about everything right, made gamin accessible to casual or non gamers. Reinvented gameplay. And offered all this at a really low price (at least when compared to the $700 PS3. I think this is just about the only time where a game console can justify raising its price after a year on the market. I mean the demand for these things is unbelievable. If you walk into a EB Games and ask for a Wii they'll laugh at you. In the meantime they have enough PS3's to start using them for structural support. I'm willing to bet that if they raised the price by $50, they'll still fly of shelves.
But you gotta give it to anyone who invested in the Wii before it was released. The thing came out of absolutely nowhere. I would love to what percentage it stock shot up after the release of the Wii.- Posted 08/12/07 at 6:29 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

andy c from Canada writes: now that alot of the game developers have shifted focus back to nintendo i think we'll be seeing alot more games in the coming year. i also think that nintendo will skip the 720p resolution and go straight to 1080i on the next generation wii

Gabriel Stefan from Canada writes: I don't think Nintendo will ever focus on hardware as a primary selling point. More then likely their "next gen" console will still be behind Microsoft and Sony in terms of hardware. Why change what has been working for Nintendo, fun gameplay and low price. They are beating xbox360 in terms of sales, and Sony is almost out of the competition. They are doing awesome and I doubt they will change the formula of low cost intuitive gameplay that has been working for them so damn well.

I love Nintendo gaming and although the Wii is an amazing system, I really wish I could play the original super mario bros. and super mario kart games that came out on the original and super nintendo consoles. Wii should come out with a game package with all of their old games, along with a wireless controller like the old super NES one where gamers can get that nostalgic feeling and play all of the old best games ever!!!!
Keep it up Nintendo!

Stewart Mawdsley from Fort Smith, NWT, Canada writes: The only thing Nintendo needs to do now is shore up support from 3rd party developers, which has been their weakness since the N64. They've always maintained stellar quality in their in-house gaming franchises (Mario, Zelda, Metroid etc.) but it'd be nice to see an actual Squaresoft scale RPG (something a tad more sophisticated than Crystal Chronicles perhaps?) because the game boy has proven that nintendo customers do like their rpg's. Any really any new hit games would be nice instead of this year's version of Mario Kart, while is awesome, but some diversity would really solidify their comeback to the market.

Gabriel Stefan from Canada writes: That has been a major issue for the Wii thus far. Even though the console is outselling the xbox and the PS, their software sales aren't doing that great. I guess that's the result of their target market though, they are catering to a group of individuals that own one or two games and play them on a rainy day, while the Xbox and PS target more "hardcore" gamers which enjoy having a substantial game library. Perhaps they should try to attract more 3rd party developers to make games exclusively for the Wii so they can nab some of those "hardcore" gamers.

Marcus Leja from Calgary, Canada writes: The "hardcore" gamer is going nowhere near the Nintendo Wii due to its limited controls and lack of HD graphics support. Nintendo will sell lots of hardware with this unit, but royalties from software will be much more limited compared to competitors.

M Spiker from Ottawa, Canada writes: The Wii didn't exactly come out of nowhere. Nintendo previewed the Wii's remote a couple of years before the Wii released (I think it was code named Revolution).
The media didn't think too much of it (or Nintendo at the time) and Microsoft and Sony ignored it. Fortunately for Nintendo, they stuck to their guns and have a huge success.
For my family there was only one choice for a game console -- the Wii. I would not have upgraded our 3-year old GameCube if this was not on the market.- Posted 09/12/07 at 7:58 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Traciatim No_Lastname from Canada writes: "To date, the Wii has sold more than double the PS3, and is only two million units behind the Xbox 360 despite the latter's year-long head start."
vgchartz.com puts the Wii at about 1.3 Million ahead of the XBOX360 and over double the PS3. Are they using only North America figures to make Microsoft look better?- Posted 09/12/07 at 8:50 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

You can purchase these games on the Wii online store with Wii points. Most of the NES games are 500 points, while N64 games are 1000. You can purchase 2000 Wii points for around $25CAD, or order online through the Wii store and save a few bux due to the FX ($20USD tax). Oh, and you can purchase a classic controller at any electronics store.- Posted 10/12/07 at 10:12 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment
